BOOK YOUR FLU VACCINATION NOW

We have flu sessions available from the 13th October.

Our annual flu vaccination campaign has started. The flu jab is not just for people aged over 65, but also for children and adults under the age of 65 who fall into one of the below groups.

The vaccination takes itself takes two minutes and is safe, painless, effective and free for:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • People, regardless of age, who have a long term illness - this includes serious heart or respiratory conditions, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, lowered immunity due to disease or treatment, multiple sclerosis or conditions of the nervous system, and people who have had a stroke
  • People in long-stay residential and nursing homes
  • People who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or people who are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill

Not having the flu jab can make you more vulnerable to the effects of flu, which can lead to more serious illnesses such as bronchitis, and pneumonia, which can result in hospitalisation and, in the worst cases, death.

Flu is not like the common cold. The virus moves quickly from person to person - the average sneeze travels at around 80 miles per hour and can cover a distance of 30 feet.

It is important to get your free flu vaccination every year to protect against the latest strain of the virus. The vaccine can’t cause flu as it does not contain any live virus - it is safe. You may get some soreness where the vaccine was injected. Less often, people get a slight temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days afterwards. Other reactions are very rare indeed. A lot of people die from the complications of flu every winter so please take this opportunity to protect yourself.

If you have not had the flu jab before, or you have questions and want more information, please talk to your GP, pharmacist or practice nurse or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647. Alternatively you can visit www.nhsdirect.co.uk or www.immunisation.nhs.uk

Bookings for flu vaccinations are being given now so call us today on 01403 752246 and book your appointment.
